THE DARKNESS
It's easy to be angry when life's not going well,
And you see an ugly darkness all around.
It is painless to blame others for the problems in your life,
But the end is still unhappiness, or so I've found.
The hardest thing we have to do in this short life of ours,
Is embrace the darkness, then bring in the light.
And to take responsibility for all our endless woes,
Instead of turning tail and taking flight.
There is no place to run and hide when all is getting rough,
And escaping is the thing you want to do.
You take your troubles with you like a cross upon your back,
When it's simpler just to stay and see it through.
And though it's easier said than done, it can't get any worse,
Accept things as they are and just go on.
Maybe you will find your circumstances aren't so bad,
It is always darkest just before the dawn.
if you stand up to your demons and look them in the eye,
They seem to disappear and hide in fright.
You will know you did your best and faced it on your own,
When you open up your heart unto the light.
